Every winter, we may face snow and icy conditions that can cause significant disruption. At Eythorne Elvington CP School, we understand how important it is to stay open—so children can continue learning and parents can work. Whenever possible, we will remain open, even if only a small number of pupils are able to attend.
However, in extreme situations where it is not safe for staff or pupils to be on site, we may need to close the school.
How will you know if the school is closed?
If severe weather forces us to close, we will notify families as soon as possible. Here’s how you can stay updated:
- Check your email – we will send a message via the school email system.
- Visit the Kent Closures website – go to the website and search for “Eythorne Elvington CP School” to see the latest status.
- Sign up for alerts – the Kent Closures website allows you to receive SMS or email notifications about school closures and other local services.
- Listen to local radio – KMFM, BBC Radio Kent, and Heart FM will also announce school closures.

How can parents help?
- Please ensure your child comes to school dressed for the cold weather (warm coat, hats, gloves, scarves, and wellies).
- If you think you may not be able to pick up your child early in the event of an afternoon closure, please arrange a back-up plan with a friend or family member and let us know. This helps ensure staff can also travel home safely if needed.
We truly appreciate your support in helping us stay open and keeping our school community safe during the winter months.
Thank you for your cooperation!
