At Eythorne Elvington Community Primary School, we are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils. As part of this commitment, we are working in partnership with Kent Police and Children’s Services through an initiative called Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a nationwide scheme designed to provide early support to children and young people who have been exposed to domestic abuse. Research shows that children can be significantly affected by domestic incidents—whether they witness the event directly, intervene, or experience the emotional impact of seeing a parent suffer. Even when they are not physically harmed, the effect on their wellbeing can be considerable.

To help safeguard these children, Kent Police will notify our school’s Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) — Neil Garvey (Headteacher) and Shaun Hutcheon (Assistant Headteacher) — whenever a domestic incident has taken place and a pupil from our school was present. This enables us to provide discreet, timely support to the child and ensure they remain in a safe, secure, and familiar environment.

All shared information is handled confidentially and in line with the Kent Police and MASH Encompass Protocol Data Sharing Agreement, as well as our school’s safeguarding and record-keeping policies. Only the DSL(s) and relevant staff will be informed as necessary to support the child effectively and sensitively.

We have communicated the purpose and procedures of Operation Encompass to all parents and governors. If you would like to learn more about the initiative, please visit the official website:

We are proud to be part of this important initiative and remain dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of every child in our care.
